Scorpion Sports produce quality English willow bats that come machine 'knocked-in' at the factory but we recommend you ALWAYS follow these steps for bats of ALL qualities and brands. 1. Lightly oil with Linseed Oil using an old cloth and leave to dry. 2. 'Knock-in' your new bat. 3. Store in a dry environment. 4. DON'T use your bat to vent your frustrations after a all too brief innings - enough said !!?? Knocking In This to compress the willow fibres and thereby both prolong the life of the bat and give better 'driving' power. We recommend you use a wooden bat mallet and old ball. 1. Tap methodically down the edges with an old 'soft' ball. (30 minutes) 2. Tap methodically down the blade with an old 'soft' ball. (30 minutes) 3. The next day repeat this process with a wooden bat mallet and gradually increase the force of blows. (2-3 hours) 4. Practice with the old ball, getting a 'feel' for your bat ie. how it drives, where the 'sweet' spot is etc... Check no indentations are left by the ball - return to the mallet if necessary. 5. Use the bat in light work eg. hit short catches. 6. Practice in the nets against slow to medium pace. 7. ENJOY You're now ready for the match...now where's Brett Lee ?! Scorpion Sports - Experience the difference. Tips 1. Do NOT leave your bat by a radiator or in your car boot. If the willow dries it becomes brittle. Store in a shed or garage where there is some atmospheric moisture. 2. Minor toe swelling. This is from dampness in the fibres. Always dry the bat toe after playing in moist conditions and store on a dry surface. Apply a LIGHT coat of oil to the toe before next innings. Apply a TOE GUARD before you start using your bat. 3. Fix minor cracks / scratches before continuing to use your bat. 4. ENJOY your batting - it's what sport is about !!!
